Project Title: Room construction
Project Description:

Scorpion Control Center is a community based Initiative created and managed by refugees to address the issue of the high rate of Scorpion stings and snakebites among refugees living in Kakuma refugee camp/camp. The project conducts research on venomous species, gets relevant information about them, picture them, makes catalogs containing images with informations to help us build a speech for the community wellness, children safety, and protection of species as they play a role in the ecosystem. The project conducts education by organizing workshops, sensitization program, talks on local radio stations. The stings and bites have become as a second threat to refugees after malaria for two decades since the creation of the camp. Yet no one and nothing has been put in place to educate refugees to keeping safe in such environment. Our struggles seeing loved ones dying from Stings and bites have inspired us to face our sadness, fears and anxiety by learning about these creatures. We then would like to have a center as our physical location where we will be welcoming visitors, community members who seek for advice. We would like to conduct short courses in environmental literacy and protection of species to empower youth get a new mindset, a new culture of being solutionaries. The sensitization campaign we conducted as a pilot into schools gave us a picture of how much this project is needed by everyone. If you support us, we will be organizing regularly our program in the community, in schools in order to get everyone present to the safety of all.
