Project Title: Women in Business
Project Description:
The mission of Westover School is to provide an environment that inspires the intellectual, artist, athlete, and philosopher in each student. Westover challenges young women to think independently, to embrace diversity, and to grow intellectually and spiritually. Westover encourages in each student integrity, responsibility, and commitment to community. Westover School is an independent all-girls’ college preparatory school located in Middlebury, Connecticut, currently providing educational opportunities to 205 young women, including both boarding and day students.
Westover School’s Inspiring Women Campaign, the largest fundraising initiative in the history of our school, is now underway. This comprehensive $45 million fundraising initiative insures the continued endowment for student support, faculty salaries, signature programs, campus stewardship, and growth of the annual fund. By securing our signature programs such as W.I.S.E., Manhattan School of Music, Online School for Girls, and others, Westover will lead the way in creating innovative learning opportunities and experiences for the young women we educate. Our newest signature program is our Women in Finance, Business and Entrepreneurship.
During their time at Westover, up to 20 members of the Class of 2014 will participate in our four financial education workshops a year, as well as field trips. In addition, students will be matched one-on-one with mentors who will provide financial guidance and support through monthly contacts. Students will also learn about a variety of career paths in the financial and business world by going on-site to different companies and meeting successful business leaders in a wide range of careers. Each year we will enroll up to 20 sophomore students to participate in this program.
The cost of the program is $45,000. We are asking the Charles and Joan Hermanowski Family Foundation to support this program with a $10,000 grant.
