Project Title: Equine therapy for special needs children
Project Description:

These dollars would be used for scholarships for underprivileged special needs children ranging in age from 4 to 18. The need remains great among the special needs community and providing financial help to families is one of the best things that can be done for them. Without help from the Hermanowski Foundation, many of our special needs students would be left out of our program. Our 110 special needs students range in age from 4 to 75, with 69% of them being under the age of 18.

At the present time 61% of our students are unable to pay for any portion of the program and are on full scholarships. We anticipate a growth of 10% in requests for scholarships next fall. The cost-per-student to attend classes at Horses and the Handicapped is from $2,500 to $4,000 for the fall, winter and spring session. The maximum any of our students are asked to pay is $1,650 a year. No student is refused access to our program because they are unable to pay.

We have 4 staff members, 2 physical therapists, 4 other PATH certified instructors and 325 volunteers who provide 27,900 hours per year helping our special needs students.

Other areas where we need financial assistance are as follows:
*Increase Interactive Vaulting Classes from 1 class with 5 special needs students to 3 classes for 15 special needs students.
*Pilot an equine facilitated mental health program.
*Repair and replace equipment for the horses: saddles, bridles, saddle pads, grooming kits, vaulting equipment, etc.
*Summer camp program for special needs children and their siblings.
*On-going training and education for our staff.
