Project Title: Eliada Academy Curriculum Advancement
Project Description:
Eliada’s mission is Helping Children Succeed. Through both prevention and intervention services, Eliada tackles the growing rates of Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) that impact social determinants of health for children in Western North Carolina. We provide a full-service continuum of care to youth from cradle to career.
We are seeking funding for Eliada Academy, a non-profit educational institution that provides educational and therapeutic services for school-aged youth in our Day and Residential Treatment programs. Our Academy serves high-risk students with a history of mental illness and/or emotional and behavioral problems. The vulnerable children we serve are food insecure, have experienced family disruptions and toxic stress in the home, experienced abuse and neglect, and have been in systems of care for much of their life. Our students need a structured program beyond what is available at most educational institutions to succeed. Eliada Academy combines trauma-informed therapeutic practices with education and provides one-on-one attention designed to encourage individual success. Services are delivered in the context of a therapeutic milieu six hours a day, five days a week (Monday through Friday) except for designated holiday periods. While in the Academy, students learn skills to help them succeed, such as learning ways to manage emotions, developing communication skills, developing confidence and self-esteem, building positive relationships, learning to take responsibility for choices and actions, and anger and stress management.
Currently, we only have 2 staff teaching 13 youths. For our older children, this limits the capacity to offer a wide range of courses. For high school students, this is determinantal to their progress, as those who need to stay with us for longer periods end up falling further behind in school. Thus, we are seeking funds to support further accreditation for our teachers and fees for virtual high school credit courses.
