Project Title: 2023 Process Intensive for Young Artists
Project Description:

The arts are vital to every community, and YoungArts is grateful to play a role in encouraging and supporting the young artists who will contribute to the world in meaningful ways. The 2023 Process Intensive will provide YoungArts award winners—artists between the ages of 15–18—with life-changing access to tools and experiences that will help them pursue a career in the arts.

This program was developed following direct feedback from young artists: as artists faced severe joblessness during a global health crisis, young and emerging artists especially, YoungArts learned that they seek equitable training on artistic craft and creative process. This type of instruction is often only available in graduate school or through professional experiences, limited opportunities for young artists.

The Process Intensive will take place April 13-16, 2023 and will invite 80 young artists from across the country to Miami for an all-expense-paid, three-day workshop. Participating artists will engage in classes that delve into creative process (sourcing inspiration, critique, reflection, etc), how to strengthen one’s voice as an artist, and how to work in a group setting. Artists will share their work throughout the program and come together on the final day for an open mic presentation. This program offers each artist valuable time with renowned guest artists so they can receive feedback that is specific to them and their practice. We aim to provide artists with opportunities to learn from industry leaders, create and share their artwork and strengthen their individual artistic voices so that they may confidently and adeptly pursue a profession in the arts.

This program is an organizational priority and represents an evolution of how to best serve young artists. We would be immensely grateful for The Charles and Joan Hermanowski Family Foundation’s support of this initiative, and thank you for your consideration.
