Project Title: K.I.N.D. — Kids Impacted by National Depression
Project Description:

The K.I.N.D. program provides a funding pool to take care of the special needs of low-income children significantly impacted by our Nation\’s current economic depression. The funding will be used to help kids get dental, medical or eye care; back to school needs; Rx filling; holiday and birthday gifts; gift cards; counseling and intervention; prevention of abuse and neglect via financial help to pay rent, turn on utilities, etc.; transportation assistance; tutoring; school arts/music program financial help and more. So many of the problems our young children face can be significantly reduced with financial help- housing protected, bills paid to relieve stress or utility disconnect, nutritious food to assure that kids eat even when school is out, school outings and events that require fees, help with clothing, shoes, medications, eyeglasses, etc. Good parents are not able to meet the needs of their children in these economically distressed times. The extended economic depression has left our families in shambles, stressed to levels never seen before. In Florida we have higher rates of unemployment, foreclosure, bankruptcy, and hunger than the National average. We are here to help parents succeed by offering them direct assistance and also by linking them with our more than 100 collaborative agencies. The financial support we are seeking will help our struggling parents with caring for their kids, thus improving the existence and quality of life of the poor children who are seen at our one-stop center. This financial support gives us the opportunity to help kids with school related fees or supply needs, shoes, socks, underwear and uniforms. We never know what we might be called upon to assist with-from cataract surgery for a six year old, to arranging for a funeral for an infant who has diet. Poor families don\’t know what to do when faced with such tragedy. Hopefully, someone points them in our direction.
