Project Title: Navajo Nation Humanitarian Mission
Project Description:
Since 2012, our Building Youth Around the World (BYAW) foundation has partnered annually with tribal community leaders on various Utah based Indian Reservations to help bring much needed services, clothes, books, humanitarian kits and food to members residing on the reservations
This need has only been aggravated and compounded by the COVID19 pandemic that began in 2020. Indian Country was hit hard. Living conditions made the disease hard to control. 40% of households lack proper and reliable running water to wash hands regularly and it is harder to isolate in a community where multi-generational families are common.
Families that were already struggling have been hard hit by a loss of jobs, a growing lack of resources, and a depleting supply of food.
This year we will focus our efforts on three reservation areas on the Navajo Nation. We hope to impact 640+ individuals in Montezuma Creek, Aneth, and White Mesa.
Throughout 2022, we will be working directly with community leaders to identify and fulfil these needs:
1. Provide much needed nonperishable food items for families each month in the impoverished communities of Montezuma Creek, Aneth, and White Mesa.
2. Equip schools and homes with books and workbooks to help the children get the needed practice to improve their reading skills and grade levels.
3. Fulfill much needed food, clothing, and other school/hygiene/medical needs of the residents of the Navajo Nation in Utah.
4. Donate Thanksgiving boxes filled with food and essentials for 130+ families that will last 1 to 2 months.
5. Install Pellet furnaces in the homes of tribal members whose propane tanks have started leaking and causing health issues.
6. Donate 10,000+ pounds in non-perishable and canned foods for the Tribal pantries that will help families in need over the year.
