Project Title: Services for Child & Teen Survivors of Domestic and Sexual Violence
Project Description:

Canyon Creek Services (CCS) is a community based domestic and sexual violence organization located in rural southern Utah. CCS has a Child & Youth advocacy program that meets the needs of vulnerable children and teenagers who have experienced or witnessed domestic, sexual or child abuse. When a child or teenager comes into our care, they’re assigned their own Child & Youth advocate who specializes in working with children and can support them with their unique needs in healing from the violence they have experienced. As the quote from Hodding Carter says, the two most important things we can give children are roots, which is safety, support, and security; and wings, which is education, mentoring, and championing. Our Child & Youth Victim Advocates provide both of those critical elements. Last year, CCS provided individualized services to 135 child clients and this number has consistently grown year after year. These supportive services are critical in helping children cope with and heal from the trauma they have experienced. With the number of children we serve increasing, we’ll be increasing programming and activities as well. The cost of the supplies, materials, and possible entry fees for various outings is one that isn’t easy for our organization to absorb. Our program is perfectly in line with the Hermanowski Family Foundation’s mission to “ improve and transform the lives of children and young adults living in the United States” and “provide them with the necessary tools to succeed and to achieve their full potential.” With funding from the Hermanowski Family Foundation, CCS will be able to continue to meet the growing needs of the children and teens we serve and expand child & youth programming in order to best serve these children.
