Project Title: Enhanced Health and Wellness for Middle School Youth
Project Description:

We are asking for funding to help with the initial expansion of our health and wellness programs, called Pure Performance and Fuel Tanks, throughout Cody High School and into Cody Middle School. We believe increased wellness support in the form of pamphlets, advice, workshops, and tastings (i.e. customized meals through Fuel Tanks) will help more kids recognize the importance of good nutrition and lifestyle choices at a much younger age, and will lead to heightened potential as they grow into adulthood.

Since 2018, Cody CAN Youth (CAN for short) has funded health and wellness education and nutrition programs for the Highschool students living in Park County School District 6. Pure Performance is a program in which CAN provides general education, tips, and wellness support to the student body to “fuel individuals’ minds and bodies” so they can reach their maximum potential. Fuel Tanks is a program that falls under Pure Performance, which involves providing local highschool athletic teams with customized meals to help them perform their best while they compete in travel competitions. The goal is to have all Park County School District 6 students understand the connection between their lifestyle choices, nutrition, and their performance in school and on the playing field.

Currently our Fuel Tanks and Pure Performance programs are heavily focused on the Highschool student body population. In 2023, we plan to expand these health and wellness/nutrition programs into Cody Middle School. This will promote lifestyle awareness and nutrition at a much earlier age, which sets up students for success much earlier. It will also help middle school students be more prepared for the demands of highschool and highschool sports, by familiarizing them with some of the wellness-related content they would normally receive once they reach 9th grade.
