Project Title: Fostering High-Quality Education for All
Project Description:

Foster Grants and Giving supports remediation and literacy programs that address students’ academic and youth-development needs, with a strong focus on literacy, STEM, and civics, grounded in data-driven assessment. The tutoring portion provides personalized attention to diagnose learning gaps and improve grade-level reading by the end of the program. We also supply brand-new books to underserved students and schools serving low-income African Americans and students of color, building classroom libraries and giving students books for breaks. Our organization serves as a backbone partner to schools by supplying and distributing high-quality instructional materials and technology, thereby enhancing teacher effectiveness and ensuring a coherent, standards-aligned curriculum. When teachers have the right resources, they can concentrate more on instruction, benefiting all students, especially those most in need. Our College Prep program builds a strong college-going culture by providing students and families with the information, tools, and perspectives needed to access and succeed in postsecondary education, including higher education, the military, trade schools, and direct-hire opportunities. Career planning and Career-Aligned Educational Activities help students align their postsecondary choices with their long-term goals, enabling them to complete programs more quickly, minimize costs, and maximize returns. Test preparation is a significant component, including free SAT, ACT, and PERT prep; tutoring; study guides; meals; gas cards; application fee support; and test fee waivers. PERT tutoring is especially critical for students whose primary pathway is community college, helping them avoid noncredit remedial coursework and complete AA or AS degrees in 2-3 years rather than 4-5 years. Our high school programming develops critical thinking and practical life skills through Student Business, business fundamentals, and nonprofit management, including governance, strategic planning, evaluation, and financial management. Financial Literacy program teaches responsibility, budgeting, income and taxes, credit and debt, consumer awareness, saving and investing, insurance, and retirement planning through interactive, real-world scenarios.
