Project Title: Fish for Change Colorado Programs
Project Description:
Fish for Change’s Colorado programs are built around a simple but powerful belief: meaningful time outside can change a young person’s life.
Through fly fishing, conservation, mentorship, and outdoor education, Fish for Change creates safe, welcoming, and engaging experiences that help youth build confidence, curiosity, resilience, and connection — both to the natural world and to themselves. Programs serve youth and families throughout the Roaring Fork Valley and surrounding Western Colorado communities, with a strong focus on reducing barriers through low-cost and scholarship-supported opportunities.
Many of the youth we serve may not otherwise have access to outdoor recreation, mentorship, or environmental education. In a world where many young people feel increasingly disconnected from nature and community, Fish for Change provides experiences that encourage exploration, stewardship, positive mental well-being, and healthy connection through time spent outside.
Programs include youth mentorship opportunities, homeschool outdoor education classes, conservation-focused river education, family fishing days, and community-based outdoor experiences. Participants learn practical outdoor skills such as fly casting, knot tying, fly tying, and river safety while also exploring river ecosystems, aquatic insects, conservation practices, and stewardship of public lands and waterways.
What makes Fish for Change unique is the combination of mentorship, conservation, experiential education, and community connection. Programs are intentionally designed to feel approachable, inspiring, and fun while creating meaningful opportunities for growth, leadership, confidence, and environmental awareness.
Ultimately, Fish for Change seeks to help inspire the next generation of environmental stewards while creating healthier communities and brighter futures through mentorship, conservation, and meaningful outdoor experiences.
