Project Title: Building Young Leaders
Project Description:
Building Young Leaders is Time Youth Dothan, Inc.’s core after-school program designed to support the academic success, leadership development, and long-term independence of youth from underserved communities in Dothan, Alabama. The program primarily serves 10–18-year-old students, while also supporting younger and older youth ensure continuity of growth across their critical developmental stages. Our program addresses key barriers such as access to limited access to academic support, food insecurity, lack of safe after-school environments, and reduced exposure to positive role models. The program provides a structured, nuturing setting where students receive daily tutoring in reading and mathematics, complete homework with access to technology, and benefit from consistent mentorship in a safe, encouraging environment. Beyond academics, students participate in enrichment activities that promote leadership, teamwork, communication, and responsible decision-making. Weekly and summer programming includes field trips, college tours, and career exploration experience that connect classroom learning to real-world opportunities and future goals. Our program removes financial barriers by providing all services at no cost, including transportaiton, nutritious meals, school supplies, and seasonal clothing as needed. Famile engagement is a key component, with prioritized communication between staff, parents, and teachers to support each student’s progress and future goals. Serving about 200 students annually across two campuses, Building Young Leaders consistently produces outcomes such as improved academic performance, increased attendance, reduced behavioral issues, and strengthened self-confidence. Through a holistic approach that combines education, mentorship, and community support, our program equips youth with the tools needed to success during their academic journey and become productive, engaged leaders in their community.
