Project Title: Hope Harbor Program for At-Risk, Homeless Teens
Project Description:

Hope Harbor is the only long-term, privately funded, preventative youth shelter in the state of California. Teens in our program come from low-to-moderate income households with family members who struggle with addiction, abuse, poverty, incarceration, food insecurity, mental health issues, suicidal thoughts, and low education levels. They are on the precipice of devolving into a life of homelessness, human trafficking, criminalization, addiction, and gang violence.

Hope Harbor’s goal is to transform the lives of at-risk youth and provide them with the necessary tools to succeed and achieve their full potentials. We do this through:
• Mental Health Evaluation and Treatment: Youth receive mental health evaluations, 1:1 case management, and weekly individual, family, and crisis counseling from a licensed clinical therapist.

• Individual Academic Planning: Each teen receives an academic plan tailored to their needs that can include credit recovery, tutoring, school attendance, and college planning.

• Healthy Living: Teens learn how to engage in healthy living and gain valuable life skills, including cooking, establishing a routine, financial literacy, and self-esteem building.

• Comprehensive Care: Youth are provided with safe shelter, nutritious meals daily, and comprehensive health care. They also engage in physical fitness, nutrition education, and music and art therapy.

Hope Harbor is unique among youth shelters in several fundamental ways that significantly contribute to our program success. Most youth shelters offer short-term care, whereas the Hope Harbor program lasts for 12-18 months, ensuring that teens have adequate time to address the root causes of their crises and develop new coping strategies. Instead of a rotational shift of staff, the two Hope Harbor houses are run by house parents and operate like a family home. The difference could not be more impactful. The house parents offer a consistent, nurturing presence which fosters a trusting relationship between the house parent and teen and effectuates change.

Total Project Budget: $622,319

Other Funding
Sources For The Project (Committed & Potential): Hope Harbor operates debt-free, is 100% privately funded, and receives no government funds while owning the two homes that serve our clients. With 40 years of history serving our community, Hope Harbor has a diversified and stable funding base. We receive support from foundation grants, corporate donations, individual gifts, in-kind donations, and ongoing fundraising activities from community partnerships. Funding for Hope Harbor is sustained through a diverse donor base of annual donors. To date, funding has been committed by the Tustin Community Foundation, Dhont Family Foundation, Linden Family Foundation, O.L. Halsell Foundation, and Wal-Mart. Additional funding is actively being sought from private foundations, corporate partners, and individual donors to expand critical, life-changing services for at-risk, homeless teens.
