Project Title: BRYC’s 2027 Senior College Tour
Project Description:

Since 2009, the Baton Rouge Youth Coalition (BRYC) has helped lower-income teens excel in high school and pursue strong-fit, affordable postsecondary pathways that promote economic mobility. In 2026–2027, we will serve ~1,000 8th–12th-graders and 1,050 alumni. BRYC graduates boast an 84% college persistence rate — 5.5X the national average for lower-income students — and have been awarded 376 degrees and $100+ million in scholarships. Alongside proven self-regulation, ACT, financial literacy, and college admissions programs, BRYC also provides tutoring, counseling, transportation, food, and direct aid, as well as access to social capital and experiences more affluent families can easily afford for their children.

One such experience is a college tour. Visiting campuses before making a final selection is especially valuable for first-generation students who cannot draw on family members’ experiences to prepare for college life. Tours let Fellows immerse themselves in a campus environment — attending classes, meeting professors and students, exploring housing and surrounding geography — before making one of the most important decisions of their lives.

BRYC is committed to ensuring Fellows not only gain admission to their postsecondary institution of choice, but are positioned to succeed once enrolled. We humbly request that the Hermanowski Family Foundation contribute $10,000 to our 2027 Senior College Tour. Not including staff time, BRYC expends ~$250 per Fellow for overnight tours, covering expenses for 50 Fellows, the maximum we can safely chaperone. Fellows must be in good standing to participate. BRYC’s Senior Team plans all tour components: transportation, meals, guides, info sessions, cultural activities, and visits with BRYC alumni enrolled at or graduated from each institution. We also support Fellows in attending diversity visits and other on-campus initiatives.

If funded, 50 seniors will tour multiple campuses next year, inspiring informed decisions that yield long-term success. We thank the Foundation for its consideration!
