Project Title: Expanding Trauma-Informed Yoga and Mindfulness for Youth in Santa Fe Schools
Project Description:

Santa Fe Community Yoga (SFCY) seeks support to expand its Yoga in Schools program, which provides free, trauma-informed yoga and mindfulness programming to students in Santa Fe Public Schools and other school communities across Santa Fe County.

Students today are navigating increasing levels of stress, anxiety, and social-emotional challenges that can directly impact attention, behavior, and academic success. Research shows that mindfulness and movement-based practices can improve emotional regulation, reduce stress, and support students’ ability to focus and engage in the classroom. SFCY brings these evidence-informed practices directly into schools, equipping youth with practical tools they can use in real time. SFCY partners directly with Santa Fe Public Schools to deliver consistent, in-school programming, ensuring equitable access for students who may not otherwise have access to wellness or enrichment opportunities. SFCY also collaborates with additional school communities and youth-serving organizations to expand access across Santa Fe County.

Through guided movement, breathing techniques, and mindfulness practices, students build skills in self-regulation, body awareness, and stress management. Teachers and school staff consistently report improvements in student focus, emotional regulation, and overall classroom engagement.

Funding will support the expansion of programming to additional classrooms and school sites, increasing the number of students served and ensuring consistent, free program delivery. Funds will primarily support instructor time, program coordination, and materials needed to sustain high-quality programming.

By expanding access to these preventative, skill-building practices, SFCY supports youth in building resilience, improving well-being, and strengthening their ability to succeed in school and beyond.
