Project Title: Mood & Ink: A Journaling Program for Emotional Wellness
Project Description:

Jewish Family Service & Children’s Center of Clifton-Passaic (JFS) seeks support for Mood & Ink, a creative journaling program designed to improve the mental health and emotional well-being of youth ages 14–21 in Passaic County, New Jersey. This initiative integrates expressive writing, guided reflection, and peer discussion to help young people develop healthy coping strategies, strengthen emotional awareness, and build confidence in their authentic voice.

Youth today face rising levels of anxiety, depression, and social isolation, often without accessible, stigma-free tools to process their experiences. Mood & Ink addresses this need by providing a structured yet creative outlet where participants can safely explore their thoughts and emotions. Through weekly group sessions led by trained facilitators, youth will engage in journaling exercises, mood-tracking activities, and guided conversations that normalize mental health challenges and promote resilience.

The program will be delivered in multiple 10–12 week cycles over the course of one year, serving approximately 60 participants. Each participant will receive a personal journaling kit and access to a supportive peer environment that fosters connection and reduces feelings of isolation.

Short-term outcomes include improved emotional expression, reduced stress, and increased sense of belonging. Long-term, participants will gain lifelong tools for self-reflection, communication, and mental wellness.

By combining the arts with evidence-informed mental health practices, Mood & Ink empowers young people to better understand themselves, navigate challenges, and build a healthier, more hopeful future—aligning closely with the Hermanowski Foundation’s mission to equip youth with the tools needed to succeed and reach their full potential.
