Project Title: Stability to Success: Meeting Basic Needs & Building Futures for At-Risk Teens
Project Description:
At the Augusta Teen Center, we serve youth who are navigating some of the most difficult challenges in central Maine—food insecurity, housing instability, trauma exposure, and limited access to consistent adult support. For many of our teens, stability is not a given. Without it, success is out of reach.
Our “Stability to Success” program meets urgent basic needs while building the skills and resilience necessary for long-term independence. Each day, teens receive nutritious meals, a safe and supervised environment, and access to trusted adult mentors. From that foundation, they engage in structured programming focused on life skills, emotional regulation, communication, and workforce readiness.
Youth participate in hands-on learning through community gardens, environmental stewardship, and service projects—gaining practical skills while contributing meaningfully to their community. At the same time, we integrate social-emotional learning and behavioral health support to help teens process stress, build confidence, and develop healthy coping strategies.
This is not a one-time intervention—it is a consistent, relationship-based model that creates real change. Teens who once struggled to attend school begin showing up. Youth who lacked direction begin planning for jobs and futures. Most importantly, they begin to see themselves as capable.
Funding will directly support meals, program materials, and staffing to ensure that vulnerable youth have daily access to stability, mentorship, and opportunity.
By meeting basic needs first, we open the door for everything that follows.
