Project Title: Academic and Life Skills Learning Center
Project Description:
Every young person who walks through our doors carries the invisible weight of child abuse and neglect, often believing the devastating lie that they are destined to be written off by the world. For the foster youth with no childhood photos for a school project and the brilliant teen whom the public education system has failed, our Academic and Life Skills Program is a relentless fight for their inherent worth.
By replacing instability with a sanctuary of unconditional belief, we provide the tutoring and fierce advocacy required to close significant learning gaps. To ensure the long-term sustainability of these educational gains, Children’s Harbor has transitioned to an integrated on-site Learning Center model. This shift allows us to move beyond crisis intervention toward a stable, permanent resource for our youth.
A grant of $10,000 from the Charles and Joan Hermanowski Family Foundation will provide the essential educational infrastructure necessary to maintain this high standard of care. By investing in these foundational resources, we ensure the program remains resilient against fluctuating state budgets.
This commitment is a life-altering intervention. We provide the tools for youth to earn academic awards and graduate, transforming once-impossible dreams into a quiet, hard-won reality. Your support ensures that this "harbor" remains a permanent fixture in South Florida, breaking the cycles of trauma forever and allowing our youth to begin healthy, educated, and productive lives.
