Project Title: Emergency Support for Minor Trafficking Victims
Project Description:

Safe House Project is seeking funding to support our Emergency Support Program, which provides crisis response, stabilization, and safe house placement to victims of human trafficking in the United States. Every year, hundreds of thousands of children and youth are trafficked in the U.S., but fewer than one percent are identified. Even those few identified victims remain at high risk, with 80% being trafficked again due to an extreme lack of access to immediate, trauma-informed care.

Minor and young adult trafficking victims face overwhelming barriers to freedom. Victims frequently experience malnutrition, untreated or inadequately treated injuries, STIs, and long-term neurological and psychological conditions as a direct result of prolonged abuse. On top of these challenges, many victims face threats of violence and retaliation if they try to escape, and most will become homeless in the process. Minor victims face additional challenges, as they often must navigate complex family dynamics, custody issues, and serious financial constraints. Without immediate, comprehensive support, very few trafficking victims are able to successfully escape exploitation.

The Emergency Support Program was designed by survivor leaders on our staff to directly dismantle these challenges. As soon as they first contact our Survivor Support Team, trafficking victims are provided with safe exit coordination, temporary shelter and transportation, basic necessities, medical care, mental and behavioral health stabilization, addiction care, and full coordination of placement in a trafficking-specific, long-term safe house program. By offering all of these services simultaneously, Safe House Project minimizes the barriers that victims face to safely and permanently escaping their traffickers, and coordinates direct access to the specialized care they need to heal.

A $10,000 grant from the Hermanowski Foundation will directly support at least 12 minor victims of trafficking as they exit exploitation, ensuring that they have real opportunities for safety, healing, and freedom.
