Project Title: Arts and Humanities For Every Student
Project Description:
Arts and Humanities for Every Student (AHFES) provides access to curriculum-aligned, culturally relevant field trips, performances, and workshops throughout the school year. DC Collaborative supports programs across all arts disciplines and program types while prioritizing artistic/humanities merit, diversity, and student engagement. A volunteer peer committee, consisting of local school and education professionals, reviews all submitted programs while also upholding these standards. We use an internal assigning rubric to prioritize programs for high-need schools, and require all AHFES partners to offer their programming at no-cost to schools. We manage the logistics—including program registration, transportation coordination, and school/partner communication—so that educators and artists can focus on delivering quality experiences.
The Collaborative connects students to programs that are relevant to their identity and experiences, and participants have consistently confirmed; 61% of students agreed in FY23, 73% in FY24, and 84% in FY25. A teacher at Dorothy Heights Elementary School offered “through field trips, DC Collaborative has allowed my students to have rich discussions, increase their vocabulary, make connections to the world, and become more tolerant of the world outside of themselves. As an educator, I feel that the experiences are invaluable for myself and for my students. Students are given hands-on experiences that they may not be able to access otherwise.”
