Project Title: Expanding Opportunity: One-on-One STEAM Mentoring for Charlottesville-Albemarle Youth
Project Description:

C4K exists to give children and young adults the tools they need to succeed — and to help them achieve their full potential. For 25 years, C4K has been the only organization in the Charlottesville-Albemarle area of Virginia combining one-on-one STEAM mentoring with hands-on technology access for youth from low-income households, at no cost to youth or their families.C4K’s flagship 1:1 Mentoring program pairs each youth (grades 6–12) with a trained volunteer mentor for a 16-week, project-based experience in coding, robotics, design, digital storytelling, music production, and more. Youth don’t just learn about technology; they build with it. Alongside trusted mentors, they develop confidence, problem-solving skills, and the capabilities that open doors to education and economic opportunity.C4K also offers Collabs (small-group project-based STEAM learning experience with group mentors), themed Camps during school breaks, and Open Clubhouse — drop-in, youth-driven exploration time. Together, these programs transform the lives of 140+ youth annually — all from households at or below 80% of HUD Area Median Family Income. A Hermanowski Foundation grant of $10,000 would fund direct program delivery in FY2027: mentor training, project materials, and access to current and emerging technology. In FY2025, C4K’s volunteer mentors contributed 2,160 hours valued at over $65,000, amplifying the impact of every philanthropic dollar invested.

Total Project Budget: $888,000.00
