Project Title: Comprehensive Youth Initiative
Project Description:
Inn Dwelling is a Philadelphia-based nonprofit located in the Germantown section of the city, dedicated to expanding access to high-quality educational opportunities for motivated students from low- to moderate-income communities. Founded to address systemic inequities in education, Inn Dwelling provides academic enrichment, mentorship, and scholarship support to help students succeed in rigorous academic environments and beyond.
Our work centers on two core programs. The Sophia Program serves select 7th and 8th grade students, providing advanced afterschool instruction in math, English Language Arts, and high school placement test preparation (HSPT)—opportunities not available in their home schools. This early intervention equips students, many of whom are “taught to the middle” in under-resourced schools, with the skills and confidence to gain admission to highly competitive private college preparatory high schools. As a result, 95% of our 8th graders are accepted, receiving an average of $25,400 in annual scholarships.
Our high school program provides ongoing academic support, mentorship, leadership development, and financial assistance to ensure students thrive. Through tutoring, test prep, college exposure, and a $3,000 gap scholarship, students persist and succeed on a path toward selective colleges and careers.
Inn Dwelling primarily serves low-income students through partnerships with Independence Mission Schools, where 92% qualify for free or reduced lunch. Our mission is to ensure all bright, hardworking students—regardless of zip code—can achieve their full potential.
