Project Title: Mobile, Educational Exhibition of Butterfly Houses: Youth and Biodiversity
Project Description:

The ChangeMaker Foundation is proposing a mobile, educational exhibition about butterflies, pollinators, and biodiversity, designed to strengthen environmental education among children, adolescents, and young adults in Puerto Rico.

The project will create a portable exhibition composed of interactive and educational panels, visual resources, and didactic materials that explain the life cycle of butterflies, the role of pollinators in ecosystems, and practical actions we can take to conserve both native and endemic species, for example, the critically endangered Puerto Rican Harlequin.

The exhibition will be designed to be able to travel between four community or educational butterfly houses located at different points of Puerto Rico, allowing each space to house the installation for approximately two months. During this period, we will offer guided, educational visits, interactive activities, and short workshops to children and young people in order to promote learning on biodiversity and conservation matters. The municipalities that will benefit from the exhibition are Hatillo, Barceloneta, Vega Baja, Vega Alta, San Juan, Caguas, San Sebastián, Utuado, Aibonito, Cayey, Las Piedras, Patillas, Humacao, and Juncos.

We anticipate that the project will directly impact between 300 and 500 children, teenagers, and young adults, including students, families, and community groups who participate in educational activities in butterfly houses.

The requested funds will be used to create educational content, design and produce panels and portable structures for the exhibit’s installation, and develop a digital, educational campaign aimed at amplifying the project’s reach and encouraging young people to participate.

Through this initiative, the ChangeMaker Foundation hopes to inspire scientific curiosity, create environmental awareness, and encourage community participation among children and youngsters. This will assert the role of butterfly houses as educational spaces that connect science, nature, and culture. Participants will come from schools, churches, sports teams, and community organizations, thereby comprising an intergenerational community.

Total Project Budget: $15,000.00
