Project Description:

Feeding South Florida’s School Pantry Program places food access directly on school campuses, creating a practical and consistent way for families to bring groceries home. Located primarily at Title I schools, each site operates as a client-choice pantry, giving parents and caregivers the ability to select the items their households will actually use. This approach respects individual needs and removes many of the challenges families face when trying to access traditional distributions.

Each pantry offers a mix of fresh produce, pantry staples, dairy, and protein, helping families build meals that carry them through the week. Distributions take place regularly during the school year and typically reach 120–150 families at each location. By aligning with the school day, the program fits naturally into families’ routines, reducing the need for additional travel or time away from work.

The presence of a pantry on campus also changes how schools show up for families. It creates another point of connection where staff, volunteers, and students can work together in support of one another. When food is more accessible at home, students come to school more prepared to engage and participate.

Beyond the groceries, families are connected to additional resources, including SNAP application support and other community services. This combination of access and coordination helps households navigate ongoing challenges while creating more stability over time. Through the School Pantry Program, Feeding South Florida is not only providing food, but reinforcing schools as central, responsive spaces for families.
