Project Title: Guitar Club
Project Description:

Pathways Through Music’s After-School Guitar Club provides free, school-based music instruction to students in under-resourced communities, with a focus on those who are not currently enrolled in other extracurricular activities. The program creates a safe, structured environment where students can remain on campus after school while engaging in meaningful, creative learning experiences.

Through weekly after-school sessions led by experienced music educators, students learn foundational guitar skills, including basic technique, rhythm, and ensemble playing. Instruction is hands-on and collaborative, encouraging students to build confidence, develop discipline, and express themselves through music. Students also have opportunities to perform, fostering a sense of accomplishment and connection to their peers and school community.

A key priority of the program is to engage students who may otherwise lack access to enrichment opportunities. By providing instruments, instruction, and programming directly on campus at no cost, Pathways Through Music removes common barriers such as transportation, fees, and limited program availability.

Beyond musical skill development, the Guitar Club supports students’ social and emotional well-being. By offering a positive and supervised after-school environment, the program helps increase student engagement, strengthen school connection, and reduce exposure to unsafe or high-risk situations.

With support from the Charles and Joan Hermanowski Family Foundation, Pathways Through Music will expand the Guitar Club to additional schools, reaching more students with consistent, high-quality music education and a safe space to learn, grow, and belong.
