Project Title: Marklund Day School
Project Description:
The Marklund Day School is a non-public, State Board of Education licensed therapeutic day school that serves students, ages 3-21, with complex medical, developmental, and behavioral needs whose home districts cannot provide adequate support. Marklund operates three therapeutic day schools, serving over 100 students. Our program offers specialized programs that integrate academics with therapies such as speech, occupational, physical, and behavioral health services. We cultivate an environment conducive to learning through specialized curriculum, positive behavioral interventions, and individualized student support. Our goal is to make progress possible for students with medical and behavioral challenges by fitting our environment, approach, instruction, and care to help them discover their special abilities and potential.
Many students in the counties we serve face significant challenges such as developmental disabilities, medical needs, emotional struggles, and learning difficulties. Traditional educational settings often do not have the appropriate resources or staffing to meet the unique needs of these students. School districts then will refer students with specialized needs to therapeutic day schools such as Marklund’s when they are unable to provide the necessary resources or individualized support.
To best meet these students’ needs, we have a behavioral analyst, social worker, speech therapist, recreational therapist, nurse, occupational therapist, and physical therapist all on staff. This holistic approach enhances students’ ability to develop their personal strengths and achieve greater independence. We have six to ten students per classroom and offer a 1:3 student-staff ratio to ensure students are receiving the individualized care they need. Our highly trained staff create Individualized Education Plans (IEP) to help students build communication, mobility, emotional regulation, and life skills to help them thrive in school, at home, and in their community.
