Project Title: Expanding Youth Theatre Access in Siouxland
Project Description:

The Sioux City Community Theatre (SCCT) provides year-round youth theatre programming serving approximately 225 students annually through semester classes, productions, and a summer theatre camp. Despite strong community interest, financial barriers and production limitations can restrict participation and program growth, particularly for youth from families with limited financial resources.

This project will expand access to SCCT’s youth theatre programming by increasing participation opportunities and reducing financial barriers. Funding will support the acquisition of higher-quality and more flexible production rights, allowing SCCT to select shows that accommodate larger casts and generate broader community engagement. In addition, funds will be used to provide scholarships and fee waivers to ensure that all interested youth—regardless of financial means—can participate in theatre education and performance opportunities.

The project will also enhance the quality of productions through investments in costumes, props, and materials, creating a more immersive and educational experience for participants. These improvements not only strengthen skill development in acting, collaboration, and creativity, but also increase audience engagement and community support.

Through this initiative, SCCT anticipates serving 200–250 youth participants over the course of one year. Outcomes will include increased participation rates, expanded access for underserved youth, and enhanced quality of youth theatre productions. SCCT will track enrollment, scholarship distribution, and audience engagement to evaluate success.

By reducing barriers and expanding opportunities, this project will ensure that more young people in the Siouxland region can experience the personal, social, and educational benefits of theatre.
