Project Title: World Outside Our Doorstep
Project Description:

The Los Angeles Boys and Girls Club seeks $10,000 to support World Outside Our Doorstep, an experiential learning program that expands horizons for youth ages 5 to 18 through immersive cultural, educational, and community-based experiences.

Serving youth from some of Northeast Los Angeles’ most under-resourced neighborhoods, this program provides opportunities many of our members would not otherwise access. Through thoughtfully curated field trips to museums, art galleries, cultural institutions, and diverse neighborhoods across Los Angeles, youth gain exposure to new ideas, careers, and ways of life that broaden their sense of what is possible.

In addition to cultural exploration, participants engage in hands-on learning through visits to natural spaces, community landmarks, and local culinary experiences that celebrate the richness of Los Angeles’ diverse communities. Each outing is paired with guided reflection and discussion to deepen learning and connection.

The program also integrates workshops focused on substance abuse prevention, decision-making, and building resilience. These sessions equip youth with the tools to navigate real-life challenges, strengthen their sense of identity, and build confidence in unfamiliar environments.

Funding will support transportation, admission fees, program supplies, and staffing to ensure safe, structured, and meaningful experiences. With support from the Hermanowski Family Foundation, we will expand access to these opportunities for youth who would otherwise face barriers to participation.

World Outside Our Doorstep helps young people see beyond their immediate surroundings, fostering curiosity, confidence, and a lasting connection to the world around them.

Total Project Budget: $25,000
