Project Title: Traditional Spanish Market
Project Description:
The Traditional Spanish Market is one of New Mexico’s most respected cultural events, dedicated to preserving and promoting traditional Hispanic and Spanish Colonial arts that have shaped the region for generations. Held annually on the historic Santa Fe Plaza, the market brings together hundreds of artists presenting handcrafted works rooted in centuries-old techniques passed down through families and communities.
In 2023, the Atrisco Heritage Foundation, a social enterprise of The Atrisco Companies, assumed stewardship of the market to strengthen its mission of cultural preservation and community investment. A key priority of this work is expanding the Youth Market, which supports young artists ages 10–21.
The Youth Market provides hands-on opportunities for emerging artists to learn traditional art forms, develop their skills, and showcase their work alongside master artists. This program helps cultivate the next generation of cultural stewards while building confidence, creativity, and economic opportunity for youth.
The market serves as both a cultural celebration and an economic driver, connecting artists with collectors, visitors, and the broader community. By investing in youth, we ensure that these traditions are not only preserved but actively passed down.
Support from partners like the Hermanowski Foundation directly strengthens the Youth Market by expanding access to materials, mentorship, and educational programming. This investment helps sustain cultural traditions, empower young artists, and ensure that New Mexico’s rich Hispanic heritage continues to thrive for future generations.
