Project Title: Pediatric Behavioral Health Expansion
Project Description:

Valley Community Healthcare (VCH) is expanding its pediatric behavioral health (Ped BH) services to improve access to developmentally appropriate, family-centered care for children and caregivers in the San Fernando Valley and surrounding communities. This expansion strengthens VCH’s integrated Ped BH model, addressing emotional, behavioral, and trauma-related concerns while centering the critical role of caregivers in supporting children’s mental health and development. Evidence-based therapeutic approaches, including dyadic therapy and other family-informed modalities, are embedded within a comprehensive continuum of care that strengthens caregiver-child attachment, supports emotional regulation, and addresses behavioral health needs and trauma within the family context. Program focus areas include anxiety and depression, sleep hygiene, nutrition and mental health, mindfulness, parenting support, creative therapies (such as art and music), physical activity, and interactive coping-skills workshops. Group-based prevention and early-intervention services will promote skill-building, peer connection, and caregiver engagement, and will include referrals to supportive resources such as food security and legal services. Modest participation incentives, including grocery gift cards and light meals during afternoon and evening workshops, will help reduce access barriers and encourage consistent engagement. In parallel, VCH will strengthen psychiatric referral pathways through warm handoffs, improved patient tracking, and structured follow-up processes to enhance continuity of care for children requiring higher levels of behavioral health or psychiatric services. Grant funding will enhance therapist staffing during program ramp-up, workforce training and professional development, and care coordination infrastructure, as well as appropriate spaces specifically designed for group therapy and other appropriate modalities.
