Project Title: Junior Players: Transforming the lives of Dallas’ Underserved Youth
Project Description:

Over our 71-year existence as the oldest nonprofit children’s theatre in Dallas, Junior Players has endeavored to meet and maintain the changing needs of the community, utilizing theater and the arts as a vehicle to teach youth non-violent conflict resolution skills, promote healthy socio-emotional expression, and inspire young people to meet their full potential. We actualize this purpose by providing free, high-quality arts education programs in partnership with local recreation and cultural centers, low-income housing developments, schools, and social service agencies serving at-risk youth in underserved communities. Annually, we serve 15,000 North Texas Youth with 6,000 hours, or over 400 classes, of high-quality programming at over 150 locations directly within the neighborhoods we serve. We widen our impact beyond students by employing over 100 teaching artists annually and providing performances for 4,000 audience members through our free or low-cost ticket prices. Our programs narrow the arts education gap between low-income partner schools and neighborhoods and their nearby higher-income peers by allowing local community agencies to receive the equivalent of $30.00 for every $1.00 received by Junior Players towards the investment of high-quality arts programming. To support at-risk youth, we offer constructive outlets at critical out-of-school hours with programs during/ after-school and summer, and even within juvenile justice facilities- the only program of its kind in Texas. Our programs provide opportunities to develop technological, academic, and workforce skillsets while also giving students a chance to harness creativity and develop unique ideas. We humbly request the support of your foundation to join us in our efforts to create a more equitable educational landscape in North Texas. Together we can create pathways for their futures via transferrable skills and a well-rounded education while unlocking the potential for thousands of promise filled youth in North Texas.
