Project Title: Dayspring Literacy Corner: Expanding Access to Books for Middle School Students
Project Description:

Dayspring Academy is seeking support to establish the Dayspring Literacy Corner, a shared
reading space for approximately 300 students in grades 6-7. The Literacy Corner will transform a
central assembly area into an inviting reading hub with open bookshelves and a carefully selected
collection of engaging books. The collection will include high-interest fiction, STEM-related
nonfiction, and visually engaging books that encourage creativity and connect reading with
artistic expression.
Student input will play an important role in building the collection. Before selecting titles,
students will complete a brief reading interest survey to identify the genres, authors, and topics
they are most excited to explore. This ensures that the book collection reflects student interests
and encourages greater engagement with reading.
Located in a space students pass multiple times each day, the Literacy Corner will make books
highly visible and easily accessible, encouraging spontaneous reading, peer recommendations,
and informal reading groups. Teachers will also incorporate the space into independent reading
time and literacy support activities.
