Project Title: FPCE Homeless Prevention Program
Project Description:
Family Promise of the Coastal Empire’s Homelessness Prevention Program is designed to keep families with children safely housed by addressing financial crises before they result in eviction or homelessness. Through a combination of short-term financial assistance, individualized case management, and connections to community resources, the program stabilizes households facing unexpected hardships such as job loss, medical emergencies, or rising housing costs.
The impact of homelessness on children is both immediate and long-term. Children experiencing housing instability are more likely to face disruptions in education, increased absenteeism, and difficulty maintaining academic progress. Frequent moves or living in unsafe or overcrowded environments can contribute to emotional stress, anxiety, and behavioral challenges. Homelessness also affects a child’s physical health, as unstable living conditions can limit access to proper nutrition, sleep, and healthcare. Over time, these challenges can hinder a child’s development and reduce their ability to succeed in school and beyond.
By preventing homelessness, the program plays a critical role in protecting children from these adverse outcomes. Keeping families stably housed ensures that children can remain in their schools, maintain supportive relationships, and experience a sense of routine and security. This stability is essential for healthy development, academic success, and overall well-being.
During the reporting period, the program prevented 126 households from eviction or homelessness, far exceeding projected goals. Families also gained access to employment support, financial literacy education, and essential community resources, strengthening their ability to maintain long-term stability. By intervening early and providing targeted support, the Homelessness Prevention Program not only addresses immediate crises but also creates a foundation for children and families to thrive.
