Project Title: Expanding Dental Care for Underserved Children in West Central Minnesota
Project Description:

Apple Tree Dental will use these grant funds to help cover costs for comprehensive (preventive and restorative) reduced-cost oral health care for low-income patients, birth to 21 years old in West Central Minnesota at the Hawley Center for Dental Health. 77% are on Medical Assistance.

The 2019 Children’s Defense Fund – Minnesota Kids Count report found that 1) half of Minnesota’s third graders have tooth decay; 2) in 20% of the children the decay goes untreated; and 3) only 39% of children enrolled in Minnesota’s Medical Assistance program were able to access even one dental visit.

Without access to oral health services, children suffer in countless ways that impact their health and wellbeing, impairing their ability to thrive in school, in social situations, and throughout their life. Providing optimal pediatric dental care helps stop the spread of mouth infections and painful abscesses. It reduces the need for emergency room visits, narcotics and antibiotics, and, instead, builds self-confidence and improves overall health.
