Project Title: Seedling Program
Project Description:

Hope Street exists to provide housing and community for broken men, women, and children through our transitional housing, Homes at Hope Street, and our community center, Shechem at Hope Street. Hope Street provides environments where individuals are not only served, but known, valued, and encouraged to grow. Located in the 53206 neighborhood, Hope Street is committed to walking alongside individuals and families experiencing housing instability, trauma, and crisis.

Funding will support Hope Street’s Seedling Program, a year-round program for young people ages 7–18 in Milwaukee’s 53206 neighborhood. Our Seedling Program works to break toxic generational cycles of abuse, poverty, and addiction by helping kids prepare for employment, complete their education, acquire relational skills, build community, and learn how to give back. We come alongside youth in their development, empowering them to know they are loved, worthy, and created for a flourishing life.

When youth enter Shechem at Hope Street, where most of our Seedling programming takes place, youth step into a safe, welcoming environment where they can play, learn, participate in programs, get homework help, or simply be. During out of school hours, we offer activities in art, leadership, and skill building, as well as plenty of open gym time. Through basketball and open play, youth increase their confidence, regulate emotions, strengthen their physical health, practice patience, and learn to be good teammates.

At its core, the Seedling Program gives kids a safe place to play, explore, and grow. A place where kids can simply be kids-no obstacles, no adult responsibilities- just room to breathe and belong.
We provide programming that promotes character formation, leadership, academic readiness, and healthy decision-making. Through homework help, arts classes, mentoring, open gym time, and job-readiness workshops, youth gain practical skills and hands-on experiences that strengthen responsibility, discipline, teamwork, and problem-solving.

Beyond short term learning outcomes, our programming leads to long term flourishing by cultivating hope in young people.
