Project Title: Youth Leadership Academy
Project Description:

The Project Reclaim Youth Leadership Academy is a juvenile delinquency prevention-based program which utilizes academic support through our Afterschool Academy, leadership and social skills training through the Youth Leadership Academy, parental involvement and parenting education programs for parents and guardians of our youth, and the Project Reclaim TV media training program. The goal of our program is to help our youth to become positive and contributing members of society by assisting them in remaining in school; promoting to their next grade level; remaining free from involvement in juvenile delinquency and juvenile court; and remaining free from involvement in teen pregnancy. For last school year, the following outcomes were obtained by our 72 participants: 100% remained in school; 99% promoted to their next grade level; 100% were not involved in juvenile court; and 100% remained free from involvement in teen pregnancy. Our program structure of providing homework assistance and tutoring in the Afterschoool Academy, leadership and social skills training in the Youth Leadership Academy, parental involvement and parent training via our Parent University/”Raising Winners!” component has yielded similar outcomes for the past 18 years. In Project Reclaim TV, our youth learn interviewing techniques, camera operation, set design and editing. This component serves to increase their self-concepts, and provides positive validation for our young leaders.
