Project Title: After-School Program
Project Description:
Freedom City is a youth development organization that empowers students in Pre-K through 8th grade to reach their full potential through academic enrichment, mentorship, and character development. We believe every child deserves access to quality learning opportunities and caring adult relationships—because when students thrive, families grow stronger and communities flourish.
At Freedom City, we believe a child’s zip code should never determine their future. Our academically focused After-School Program provides students with the support, encouragement, and stability they need to succeed in school and build confidence in their abilities. In a state that ranks at the bottom in education outcomes, consistent academic support outside the school day can make a meaningful difference in a child’s trajectory.
Each afternoon begins with structured tutoring and homework assistance led by trained staff and volunteers who work closely with students to strengthen reading, math, and critical thinking skills. This targeted academic support reinforces classroom learning while helping students overcome gaps that can otherwise widen over time.
Beyond academics, the program integrates mentorship, character development, and hands-on enrichment activities that spark curiosity and personal growth. Students participate in experiences that promote teamwork, leadership, and problem-solving while exploring interests such as STEM, the arts, and physical wellness. Just as importantly, they build meaningful relationships with caring adults who encourage them to believe in their potential.
Freedom City also recognizes the critical role after-school programs play for working families. By providing a safe, structured, and engaging environment during the hours after school, the program ensures students continue learning while parents have the stability and peace of mind needed to remain in the workforce.
Each year, Freedom City serves approximately 50 students, helping young people strengthen academic skills, grow in confidence and character, and begin to see a future full of possibility.
