Project Title: Homework Plus
Project Description:

NDUEC’s Homework Plus program is an essential part of our effort to boost academic success for underserved students in Northern Kentucky. Serving students in grades K–8, the program runs four days a week during the school year from 2:45 p.m. to 5:15 p.m., providing a structured, safe, and academically focused environment after school. The program centers on three main elements: homework assistance, personalized tutoring, and enrichment activities, including STEM garden projects, art, music, poetry, sewing, and interactive games.

Homework Plus offers regular, one-on-one tutoring with trained adult and high school volunteers. Each student is paired with a tutor who works with them for at least an hour per session, providing homework help, reading and writing support, and targeted skill development in key areas like math and literacy. This customized approach helps students meet state and local standards, build confidence, and reinforce what they learn in class.

A significant feature of Homework Plus is the ongoing relationships between tutors and students. Consistent interactions develop trust and meaningful bonds, often growing into mentoring relationships that foster students’ social-emotional growth alongside their academic achievements.
