Project Title: Student Success and Barrier Removal Initiative
Project Description:

Communities In Schools of Hampton Roads (CISofHR) works directly inside public schools to ensure that students facing barriers to success have the support they need to stay in school and graduate. Through a network of trained Site Coordinators embedded within high-need schools across Southeastern Virginia, CISofHR provides integrated student supports that address both academic and non-academic challenges affecting student success.

Many of the students served by CISofHR face obstacles such as food insecurity, housing instability, mental health challenges, and limited access to academic resources. When these basic needs go unmet, students are more likely to disengage from school and fall behind academically. CISofHR works alongside school staff, families, and community partners to identify these barriers and connect students to the services and resources they need to succeed.

Funding from the Charles and Joan Hermanowski Family Foundation would support CISofHR student success programming that helps young people remain engaged in school and build confidence in their ability to achieve their goals. Support may include mentoring, academic assistance, access to basic needs resources, and enrichment opportunities that promote student growth and well-being.

By surrounding students with a coordinated system of support, Communities In Schools of Hampton Roads helps ensure that young people have the tools, encouragement, and resources necessary to stay in school and reach their full potential.
