Project Title: Olympians in Life Program
Project Description:

The Peter Westbrook Foundation’s Olympians in Life program provides a structured academic enrichment and youth development experience for underserved students across NYC and parts of NJ. Serving approximately 150 students annually between the ages of 8 and 18, the program focuses on strengthening academic achievement, preparing students for college, and building the skills necessary for long-term personal and professional success.

Academic enrichment is the core of the program. Students participate in weekly tutoring sessions led by licensed teachers and education professionals who provide individualized support in core subjects, including mathematics, English, and science. Additional programming includes writing development, homework assistance, and preparation for academic exams such as the SHSAT, PSAT, and SAT. Students receive both one-on-one and small-group instruction designed to address specific learning needs.

Each program year begins with baseline academic assessments that help educators establish individualized learning goals for every participant. Student progress is monitored throughout the year through GPA tracking, standardized test preparation outcomes, and diagnostic assessments that measure grade-level advancement in math and literacy. These tools allow the program team to identify areas where additional support is needed and ensure that students are making consistent academic progress.

Fencing serves as a powerful engagement tool that introduces students to the program and reinforces discipline, focus, and goal-setting. These qualities translate directly into stronger study habits and academic persistence.

A defining feature of this program is its servant-leadership model. Many coaches and mentors are alumni of the program who have gone on to compete nationally or internationally and graduate from leading colleges and universities. Their presence provides students with relatable role models who demonstrate the possibilities that education, mentorship, and perseverance can create.

Through sustained academic support and mentorship, Olympians in Life helps students graduate from high school, pursue higher education, and build pathways to future success.
