Project Title: Expand Equine Assisted Development for youth
Project Description:

Through our Equine Assisted Development (EAD) programs, we work with youth and young adults facing social, emotional, and developmental challenges. Our youth programming focuses specifically on helping children and adolescents build resilience, confidence, emotional regulation, and communication skills—foundational tools that empower them to succeed in school, relationships, and future careers. Many of the young people we serve come from rural communities where access to alternative therapeutic and developmental services is limited. Our experiential, horse-centered programs provide a powerful environment for growth. Working with horses teaches youth responsibility, empathy, problem-solving, and leadership in ways traditional classroom settings often cannot replicate. Participants learn to regulate emotions, build trust, and develop self-confidence—skills that translate directly into improved academic engagement and personal success.
Funding from The Charles and Joan Hermanowski Family Foundation would help expand access to these life-changing services for youth and young adults who might otherwise be unable to participate. Support would allow Lucky Orphans to subsidize program participation for families with financial need, expand partnerships with local schools and youth organizations, and ensure the ongoing care of the rescued horses that make this work possible.

For over two decades, Lucky Orphans has been committed to a simple but powerful mission: People Helping Horses Heal People. By providing lifelong sanctuary to horses who once served others and now allowing them to help children and young adults develop the tools needed to thrive, we create transformation for both horse and human.
