Project Title: Housing Stability Program
Project Description:

These funds would directly support youth who have aged out of foster care who hold a FYI Voucher. FYI vouchers are specific for young people who have experienced foster care and are now experiencing homelessness or housing instability. C2i offers optional support services to help maintain housing and work on other independent living goals. 37 out of 38 households served with FYI voucher support services have women as heads of household.

C2i Housing Units: Max capacity 10 ppl

*Long term/emergency – 2 units – 1 designed to be long-term housing / 1 designed to be short-term emergency housing.
*Long term – 1 bedroom apartment full kitchen/bath-housing; housing a young woman who exited foster care at 18 and is now 21 and attending college full time.
*Short term – studio efficiency with kitchenette and full bath – most recently occupied by young mother who was waiting for her voucher application to be approved and move into new housing – she was previously staying at family shelter at People Serving People, but there were a lot of rules and restrictions that were not working for her family – we were able to move them in there for a month while their new townhome awaited inspection and approval for an FYI voucher.

The youths attend college and/or are working full-time (requirement for living in the homes) as they learn to apply essential home-making and life skills. They are additionally supported by the Academic Coordinator, the Circle of Support program (which helps them identify five unpaid people as their primary safety net system), and their Independent Living Skills Counselor.

C2i will use the grant award to support the Housing Stability Program, for example application fees, security deposits, first and last month’s rent, moving expenses, small appliances, basic needs provisions, mental health support, etc. as well as the aforementioned organizational and programming areas.
