Project Title: Creating environments that foster independence
Project Description:

Linden Tree Montessori School (LTMS) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit charter school launching a tuition-free public Montessori program in Columbus, Ohio’s Linden neighborhood, serving children ages 3–15 and their families. To meet licensing expectations for PreK and provide a safe, developmentally appropriate environment, our early childhood classroom would need child-accessible handwashing sinks and a bathroom within the classroom.

We are requesting $10,000 to support renovation and plumbing work to add handwashing sinks and a child-accessible bathroom in our primary classroom. Funds will be used for plumbing installation, fixtures (toilet, sinks, faucets), flooring and wall finishes appropriate for wet areas, and any required accessibility and code-compliance upgrades. These improvements will ensure children can wash hands frequently, use the restroom with dignity and privacy, and remain in close proximity to their learning environment, which is especially important for young children and those with sensory or developmental differences.

During the grant year, we will complete design, permits, and construction, and open the renovated classroom to a founding cohort of children from Linden and surrounding neighborhoods. Short-term outcomes include increased hygiene and independence for students, smoother classroom routines, and compliance with health and safety standards; longer-term, these upgrades will allow us to save money spent on a floater to help take children to restrooms outside of classroom, support stable operation of our early childhood program and contribute to improved toilet readiness, and family trust in the school environment.
