Project Title: Food Security and Family Stability for Children in North Baton Rouge
Project Description:

HOPE Ministries of Baton Rouge works to prevent homelessness and promote self-sufficiency for families living in North Baton Rouge, one of the city’s highest-poverty communities. Many of the households we serve include children and youth who are directly affected by food insecurity, unstable employment, and limited access to resources that support healthy development.
Through our Client Choice Food Pantry, families are able to select nutritious groceries that meet the needs of their household each week. This approach restores dignity while ensuring that children have consistent access to healthy food – an essential factor in physical health, academic success, and overall well-being. In addition to food access, our Mr. Eddie’s Kitchen test kitchen provides live cooking demonstrations that teach parents and caregivers how to prepare affordable, nutritious meals using pantry ingredients. These hands-on lessons help families stretch their food budgets while building healthier habits at home.
HOPE also addresses the root causes of family instability through The Way to Work, our workforce development program that provides job readiness training, career coaching, and connections to local employers. Many participants are parents or young adults beginning their careers. When parents secure stable employment, children benefit from increased household stability, improved access to basic needs, and a stronger foundation for long-term success.
Support from the Charles and Joan Hermanowski Family Foundation will help HOPE continue providing food assistance, nutrition education, and workforce development services to families with children in our community. By meeting immediate needs while helping parents and young adults build pathways to economic stability, HOPE works to ensure that children in North Baton Rouge have the support and opportunity they need to thrive.
