Requested Amount: 5,000

Project Title: Year-Long Signature Program
Project Description:

Momentum is seeking support to expand our signature Year-Long school-based program, which will grow from serving 14 schools to serving 19 schools next year. Programming will consist of weekly dance classes held during the school day, so every child enrolled in the schools we serve can participate. Approximately 1100 4th-grade students from 48 classrooms will be engaged. Classes focus on mastering choreography, building dance skills, and fostering social and emotional competencies. All of our Teaching Artists have extensive professional experience in the arts and training in Momentum’s unique methodology and Trauma Informed Care. Classroom teachers are present and participate in classes to create a shared experience. All classes emphasize "The Big Four: Work Hard, Do My Best, Never Give Up, and Be Healthy."

The program begins in September and concludes in May with grand performances. Fourteen schools will perform at the Davidson Theater in Downtown Columbus, and four schools will perform in their own school buildings. Each year, a new theme is chosen and integrated into the weekly classes and culminating performance. The theme for the 2026-2027 school year will be Wildlife In Motion: Connecting Conservation through Dance. Momentum has formed a partnership with the Columbus Zoo to develop a curriculum focused on conservation and celebrating the Zoo’s 100th anniversary in 2027. The program directly aligns with the Zoo’s mission to empower people and save wildlife.

Throughout the programโ€™s history, the steadfast mission has been to empower children through dance, music, and performance to develop lifelong habits of self-confidence, resilience, and teamwork. Momentum utilizes a time-honored teaching methodology that provides important benefits, including:
โ—Joyous movement and physical activity
โ—Opportunity for meaningful connections between classmates and community
โ—An outlet for processing complex emotions amid uncertain times
โ—Development of mindfulness skills in order to manage stress and anxiety
โ—Trauma-informed support through the arts.

Project Title: Expanding Access to Diapers, Period Supplies, and Adult Briefs Across Palm Beach and Broward Counties
Project Description:

Covered South Florida is a fully volunteer-driven nonprofit dedicated to ending hygiene poverty across Palm Beach and Broward Counties. Our mission is simple: ensure that every person in our community โ€” regardless of age, income, or circumstance โ€” has access to the essential hygiene products they need to live with dignity.

Through this project, Covered for Every Stage: Expanding Access to Diapers, Period Supplies, and Adult Briefs Across Palm Beach and Broward Counties, we are addressing one of the most overlooked yet urgent forms of poverty affecting South Florida families today. Hygiene poverty impacts people at every stage of life โ€” infants who need diapers, students and women who need period supplies, and seniors who depend on adult briefs. Yet none of these essentials are covered by government assistance programs such as SNAP or WIC, leaving thousands of vulnerable community members without access.

Covered South Florida bridges that gap. We source and distribute free diapers, period supplies, and adult briefs through a growing network of partner organizations including schools, healthcare providers, senior centers, and social service agencies across both counties. Our volunteer-only operating model ensures that the maximum possible percentage of every dollar raised goes directly toward product procurement and community distribution.

Covered South Florida will increase our distribution capacity, deepen existing community partnerships, and expand our reach to more families, students, and seniors experiencing hygiene poverty throughout South Florida. We will continue to operate with full transparency, fiscal responsibility, and an unwavering commitment to serving those who need us most.

At Covered South Florida, we believe hygiene is a human right โ€” and we will not stop until every member of our community is covered.

Project Title: Special Activities for Bigs and Littles
Project Description:

Our mission is to create and support one-to-one mentoring relationships that ignite the power and promise of youth. Our vision is that all youth achieve their full potential. We make a positive, measurable difference in the lives of the most at-risk children in our community by promoting self-esteem and character development, improving educational outcomes, reducing risky behaviors, and expanding awareness of lifeโ€™s opportunities.

Each child (ages 6-13) in the program is placed in a one-to-one mentoring relationship with a carefully screened and trained adult mentor who meets with the child on a regular basis. Our program focuses on the strengths of these children and, as research shows, one-to-one mentoring can have a huge impact on the lives of the children we serve.

These grant funds would be used to host activities for mentors and mentees to do together. By providing the volunteer and child opportunities to get together for enriching activities in the community, we create moments for them to bond, learn, and grow together. The cost of this grant would cover entry fees, food/drink, and supply costs to host the activities. For example, we will be hosting a financial literacy course at our office, and this grant would cover food/drink for the event and notebooks for attendees. We will also host a pumpkin painting activity, and this would cover the cost of supplies for them to create their pumpkins.

The activities would take place throughout a one-year period.
