Requested Amount: $5,000

Project Title: STEM Through Literature Program
Project Description:

Inspired By Science LLC proposes the program STEM Through Literature. This program will merge STEM education with literature in forms of stories, videos, hands on experiments, and custom made student workbooks to fit the lessons. Coordinated, multi-subject learning has been shown to enhance students’ academic retention as well as to increase student engagement. Learning from the mix of STEM and literature gives us the opportunity of reaching a lot of students in a new, creative and exciting way!

In an effort to expand our reach throughout Michigan, we have partnered with a fiscal sponsor, Givinga Foundation, to manage the non-profit budget for this proposal. This will help us to eliminate limited school budgets preventing underprivileged students the opportunity for a hands-on STEM experience.

STEM Through Literature hands-on kits are designed to make learning both fun and accessible for students and teachers alike. These kits include a variety of engaging materials, such as 48 different training videos for the teachers, supplies for multiple STEM activities, kid-friendly handouts with illustrations, and electronic video lessons that guide students step by step through each activity. Over the past five years of supplying STEM Through Literature kits to schools in Wayne County MI, more than 20,000 children have been positively impacted by these innovative STEM kits, and as we continue to expand our efforts, our goal is to reach an even greater number of young minds each year.

This grant would specifically target underfunded and underprivileged schools to provide learning opportunities at no cost to the schools or students. We have a Letter of Inquiry ready to send out to nearby schools if we receive the funding.

Goddard Youth Camp is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization founded in 1967 and located in Sulphur,
Oklahoma. Designated by the U.S. Congress as a National Environmental Education Landmark, Goddard Youth Camp is the longest-running environmental education program in the country and the only educational program located in a national park. Serving as a national model for using nature’s classrooms to teach students about the environment, Goddard Youth Camp provides the ultimate field trip experience!

Goddard Youth Camp creates a bridge for children to nature, resulting in significant health benefits and increased classroom performance. It is a 44-building camp with residential cabins, teaching and meeting spaces, a large dining hall, five maintained natural trails, and a museum. Public and private schools coordinate with the camp to send classes of fourth through ninth-grade students and their teachers to spend three or five days at the camp for memorable environmental education lessons in science, history, and culture.

The camp fees, ranging from $15 to $245 per student based on the duration of stay, cover housing, meals, curriculum, museum visits, and transportation if needed. Project Title: Crafting Confidence: Empowering Youth Through Art
Project Description:

The iCRAFT Vault Foundation proposes a one-year youth wellness and creative coping project designed to support children and young people who are experiencing high levels of stress, anxiety, and emotional overwhelm. Through structured, age-appropriate creative activities, the project will introduce art as a healthy outlet for self-expression, emotional regulation, and stress management.

The project will focus on providing youth with accessible opportunities to explore creative expression in a supportive environment where emotions can be acknowledged rather than suppressed. Activities will include guided art sessions, creative reflection, and group discussions that encourage participants to identify feelings, practice calming techniques, and build positive coping skills. The project is preventative in nature and aims to reduce risk factors associated with unresolved stress, including behavioral challenges and substance misuse.

This initiative is rooted in the founder’s professional experience as a school nurse, where she has observed a growing number of children struggling to manage stress without appropriate tools or outlets. By introducing creative coping strategies early, the project seeks to equip youth with lifelong skills that support emotional well-being and resilience.

The project will be implemented over a twelve-month period and will serve youth through community-based sessions and partnerships with local families and educators. Grant funds will be used exclusively during the year following the award to support project materials, facilitation, and implementation. At the conclusion of the project, outcomes will be evaluated based on participation, engagement, and observed improvements in coping skills, with a final report submitted to the foundation as required.

Project Title: Emergency Shelter Program
Project Description:

Grandma’s Place’s (GP) Emergency Shelter Program offers emergency residential shelter for children who’ve been removed from their homes for their safety by the Department of Children & Families (DCF). These children are victims of abuse, mistreatment, & neglect, & many have varying severities of intellectual & developmental disabilities.

The shelter is open 24/7/365 to intake children from birth-12 years who have been removed from their own home by DCF. GP is unique to PBC in that it accepts all children with disabilities & is the ONLY shelter certified to care for both genders 0– 7.

The first objective is to welcome the incoming child, assure them that they’re safe, & try to make the environment as comfortable as possible. Staff greet & reassure each child, who are often confused or upset. Children then receive a physical evaluation within 72 hours of their arrival by a local pediatrician & are given treatment if needed. The children are also provided with appropriate dental care & immunizations needed to attend school.

Individual case plans are designed & administered that address each child’s unique needs. Children enrolled in school continue their education at their existing institute whenever possible, & our staff coordinates with school administration to ensure there is no disruption in schooling. Children with disabilities are taken to appropriate schools for their learning needs.

Quarterly meal plans are developed by a registered dietitian & ensure the children receive proper nutrition. Clothing & pajamas in all sizes are available for the children, as are diapers, wipes, & other supplies should they need it. The program’s objective is to make these children feel safe & to work with the DCF to find a suitable foster/adoptive family if replacement with non-offending family isn’t possible. In 2025, the shelter served 35 children.

Project Title: Roots of Connection
Project Description:

Autism Solutions Academy’s main initiative, the Community Engagement Program, brings professionals and community members into our school each month to share skills, stories, and experiences that help students grow. These visits may spark creativity through art, inspire curiosity in science, or offer chances to connect with animals, nature, and possible careers.
For many autistic children, time is spent almost entirely in therapy, leaving little room for the everyday experiences their peers enjoy. The Community Engagement Program changes that by opening doors to activities like painting, exploring museums, practicing yoga, and more. These opportunities nurture inclusion, discovery, and joy while allowing the community to witness the unique gifts of our students. They ground children in the living world, build empathy and resilience, and create long-term benefits not just for our students, but for the community as a whole.

Project Title: GO Tutoring + Mentorship
Project Description:

Founded in 2005, Golden Opportunity (GO) provides equitable, high-impact educational support to economically disadvantaged students in grades 2–8 who are performing below grade level in reading and math. What began with three students has grown to serve up to 75 of the Ithaca City School District’s most vulnerable children annually across eight elementary and three middle schools. GO focuses on students who are often quiet, overlooked, or struggling with undiagnosed learning challenges and whose caregivers cannot afford private tutoring. For these students, GO removes barriers to access and provides sustained academic advocacy and mentorship, helping them become confident learners.

Students are referred by classroom teachers and principals based on significant academic and financial need. Beginning in second grade, each student is matched with a dedicated, trained tutor—typically a retired or current educator—who remains with the student for seven years or more. This long-term relationship provides stability, trust, and individualized instruction aligned with classroom standards. GO’s model reflects best practices in High-Impact Tutoring, emphasizing frequent one-on-one sessions, consistent tutor-student pairings, and data-informed instruction. Learning goals are established in collaboration with classroom teachers and reviewed three times annually to ensure measurable progress.

GO addresses both academic and systemic barriers to success. In addition to tutoring, students receive mentorship, social-emotional support, healthy snacks, take-home meals, and transportation when needed. Tutors collaborate closely with caregivers and teachers, advocate for additional services, and help students develop executive functioning, organization, and study skills as they advance into middle school. Tutors receive ongoing professional development in Math, English Language Arts, and DEI to ensure culturally responsive and effective instruction.

GO’s impact is measurable and lasting. Annual evaluations show that 100% of participating students demonstrate academic growth and 100% successfully complete the program. Over the past 20 years, GO has served more than 1,200 students, with 67% going on to attend college or trade school. Funding will support direct tutoring, training, evaluation, and wraparound services, ensuring that students not only meet academic standards but thrive as confident, capable learners.

Project Title: The Agri -STEM outdoor Learning
Project Description:

Research shows that children from underserved communities in Georgia often face limited access to hands-on educational experiences that reinforce classroom learning and build confidence, problem-solving skills, and curiosity. Many students fall behind not because of lack of ability, but because they lack engaging, real-world learning opportunities that make education meaningful and accessible.

Our Agri-STEM Outdoor Learning Program is a one-year educational initiative designed to support academic growth for youth ages 5–19 through experiential, standards-aligned learning in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM). Activities will be delivered on the Smith Family Ranch Foundation’s 42-acre outdoor learning site, the program integrates classroom concepts with applied learning in agriculture, environmental science, and food systems.

Students participate in two 12-week cohorts, receiving instruction from trained educators and program facilitators. Weekly sessions include garden-based science labs, soil and plant biology lessons, hydroponics demonstrations, basic engineering challenges, data collection activities, and problem-solving exercises tied to real-world agricultural systems. The program empowers academic skills such as observation, measurement, critical thinking, teamwork, and communication core competencies linked to long-term educational success.

The project will serve 50 youth from low-income families who attend under-resourced schools and have limited access to enrichment programming. Outcomes will include increased STEM knowledge, improved engagement in learning, and strengthened confidence in academic abilities. Progress will be measured through attendance tracking, pre- and post-learning assessments, and instructor observations.

Funding from the Hermanowski Family Foundation will support instructional materials, curriculum supplies, learning tools, and educator stipends, ensuring the program is delivered at no cost to participating families. With this support, underserved youth will gain the educational tools, exposure, and encouragement needed to succeed in school and reach their full potential.
