Project Title: Youth Ride Program: New Fleet Bikes
Project Description:

Trips for Kids Charlotte’s Youth Ride program supports the physical, social, and emotional development of youth ages 9–16 through guided, trail-based bike rides. These rides are more than just recreation—they’re powerful tools for building resilience, confidence, and independence as youth set goals, overcome challenges, and discover their own strength. Along the way, participants develop critical life skills like communication, problem-solving, and teamwork, all in a safe, supportive outdoor environment. For many, it’s their first time exploring natural spaces or riding beyond their neighborhood, expanding their sense of self, place, and possibility.

Since 2000, the Youth Ride program has been at the heart of our mission, engaging over 500 youth each year with free, transformative cycling experiences paired with bike safety education. After 25 years and thousands of miles ridden, our Ride Program Fleet bikes are at the end of their journey. We’ve kept them rolling as long as we could, but now it’s time to retire them responsibly through metal recycling.

With support from this grant, we’ll purchase 20 new fleet bikes—ensuring our Youth Ride program can continue to deliver joy, skill-building, and life-changing outdoor experiences to the next generation of riders.

Project Title: The Legacy Project: An Integrated Approach for Youth Empowerment
Project Description:

The Legacy Project is a multi-dimensional initiative designed to equip youth with the tools, values, and opportunities needed to thrive socially, academically, and emotionally. Developed under A Foundation of Children United to Succeed, Inc., this project integrates three dynamic youth-centered programs The Literacy Blueprint: Words, Wisdom & Wealth, The H.Y.R.E.D. Blueprint (Helping Youth Reach Employment Dreams), and R.H.E.A.C.H. Ambassadors 4 Safe Schools to foster holistic empowerment and long-term impact.

At its core, The Legacy Project addresses barriers to literacy, leadership, life skills, and student voice. Through The Literacy Blueprint, students in grades 5–8 engage in a 30-week afterschool and summer program that enhances reading comprehension, financial literacy, digital awareness, and spiritual growth. The curriculum includes real-world reading selections, case studies, and project-based learning aligned with Common Core and social-emotional development standards.

The H.Y.R.E.D. Blueprint complements this by preparing youth for future employment through job readiness training, career exploration, resume development, and workplace ethics. Students participate in workshops, mock interviews, and receive guidance on aligning personal interests with viable career paths.
R.H.E.A.C.H. Ambassadors 4 Safe Schools empowers student leaders to serve as peer advocates against bullying and social harm. Ambassadors are selected based on character, leadership potential, and voice. They are trained in bystander intervention, assertiveness, and restorative practices becoming advocates for change and emotional safety in their schools and communities.

Together, these three pillars create a powerful platform for youth to grow academically, build confidence, and become responsible citizens and leaders. The Legacy Project is not just a program it is a movement to instill purpose, unlock potential, and prepare young people to build and carry forward a meaningful legacy.

Project Title: Access to Art for People with Disabilities
Project Description:

The Bridge School, a California-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit, is dedicated to ensuring individuals with severe communication and physical disabilities can fully participate in their communities. We are seeking funding for an innovative Open Art Studio program, designed to foster lasting connections between individuals with disabilities and the broader art community. This program will provide a platform for artists with severe disabilities to showcase their work while promoting universal inclusion in the arts.

Our program’s goals include promoting the inclusion of children with complex speech and physical disabilities in the arts, supporting their full participation in society, and expanding awareness about their capabilities. Through this initiative, we aim to positively influence the future of these individuals, building their confidence and visibility while educating the public about accessibility in the arts.

Key program activities will include organizing an art showcase featuring the work of artists with disabilities, complemented by panel discussions with five participating artists. Educational resources will be developed, including professional documentation and online materials, to share globally. Additionally, we will engage in targeted marketing and partnership development to ensure the program reaches a wide and diverse audience. Post-event materials will be created and shared on our website to ensure the ongoing impact of the program.

This initiative will create an inclusive platform for individuals with disabilities to express their artistic talents and deepen the global understanding of accessibility in the arts. With the Charles & Joan Hermanowski Family Foundation’s support, we can bridge the gap between artists with disabilities and the wider art community, fostering meaningful and lasting change.
