The Catonsville Cooperative Preschool is a nonprofit, family-participation early education program dedicated to fostering the social, emotional, and intellectual growth of children aged 2-5. Through a play-based curriculum and an inclusive community model, we empower children to thrive while engaging parents as active participants in their child’s education.

The Catonsville Cooperative Preschool is seeking funding to enhance its learning environment and expand access to equitable, high-quality early education. Specifically, we aim to achieve the following project goals:
-Enhance Educational Resources: Update classroom materials with STEM tools, culturally diverse books and materials, and creative learning supplies to foster critical thinking and inclusivity.
-Support Teacher and Parent Development: Provide professional training for educators and workshops for parents to strengthen our cooperative model and improve outcomes for children.
-Develop an Inclusive Playspace: Upgrade our outdoor learning area with safe, nature-based features to promote active, imaginative, and inclusive play.
-Expand Accessibility: Offer tuition assistance to ensure equitable access for families facing financial hardship.

This project will directly benefit the children and families enrolled at our school, as well as the broader Catonsville community, by creating a nurturing environment where children can learn, play, and grow. The improved resources and spaces will foster creativity, collaboration, and problem-solving while promoting physical activity and social development.

By supporting this initiative, the Hermanowski Family Foundation will help our school continue its mission to provide affordable, inclusive education and strengthen the bonds between children, families, and the community. Together, we can ensure that every child has the opportunity to reach their full potential.

Project Title: Empowering Youth through equality with Track and Field
Project Description:

The Vipers is committed to supporting and empowering young people and communities through education and athletics. We are excited to propose a new grant project to provide fitness and weight-lifting equipment to support local high-school programs and the local track club, especially for at-risk students. The acquisition of new track gear, including hurdles, starting blocks, high-quality running shoes, and more, will significantly improve their training conditions and foster better athletic performance. Additionally, introducing weight training equipment, such as free weights, resistance bands, boxes, and more, will enable athletes to build strength and resilience, essential components for success in track and field. Investing in these resources will enhance athletic performance and promote injury prevention and overall physical health. Our program strongly emphasizes mentorship and personal development, and providing state-of-the-art equipment will reinforce our commitment to offering a safe and nurturing environment for our athletes. The program would like to provide young athletes access to essential equipment at all three training sites explicitly tailored to their developmental needs. By equipping our young athletes with equal opportunities through proper equipment at all three sites, we aim to inspire them to reach their full potential both on and off the track.

Project Title: My Mental Wellness Program
Project Description:

The My Mental Wellness Program (MMWP) is an existing program that serves over 5,700 individuals each year (of which nearly 2,000 are youth), all free of charge, addressing mental health and wellness issues
such as depression, stress, suicidal thoughts, and anxiety (all of which have been exacerbated by the
Covid-19 pandemic). Over 82% of those served are persons of color, and all are LMI living at or below 200% of the federal poverty level (defined by eligibility for free/reduced lunch). Since access to mental health
resources is nearly non-existent to the community that ICD serves, and there is a strong stigma against
provision of mental health services (particularly amongst African Americans, Muslim Americans, as well as the poor), the MMWP is essential to the future of the community. Since this is the whole of our service
population, it is imperative to provide not only education and prevention services, but also emergency
counseling and referrals to decrease the number of incarcerations and accidental deaths.

The focus of this request is to expand our programming for youth (ages 6-24). Besides offering day to day emergency counseling through a licensed therapist, we also offer weekly, monthly, and quarterly education, prevention, and community outreach lectures, workshops, seminars, trainings, and other preventative
services throughout the year. Topics include managing stress, domestic violence, teen parenting, sex
trafficking, drug/alcohol awareness, suicide prevention and awareness, CPR training, etc. The MMWP also offers group therapy, support groups, yoga, mindfulness training, and art therapy for youth. Through the
MMWP, ICD has addressed the community’s stigma on mental health in creative ways (such as art therapy, yoga, and other recreational activities) and has given youth in our service area a safe environment to
address their needs. We desire to de-stigmatize mental health and make resources more accessible so
community members can live stable and healthy lives.

This programming is innovative and essential, as it provides a safe place for many community members to seek the supportive services they need in an environment they feel comfortable (especially undocumented refugees and immigrants who do not trust hospital or other state funded resources). In fact, for many
Muslims in the community (including refugees and immigrants), ICD is the only place that they feel
addresses their emotional and spiritual needs, especially when it comes to acculturation issues and the
language barrier.
