Proposal Information

Today’s Date: 03/30/24
Requested Amount: 5000

Project Title: General Operations
Project Description:

Extracurricular activities like theatre not only result in greater school achievement but promote greater self-discipline, resilience, and a reduction in risky behaviors and truancy. However, parents are often unable to find theatre programming that provides a wholesome environment in which kids can grow in their craft while receiving gospel-centered teaching and Christian discipleship.

Bright Lights Theatre was founded in May 2019 to provide accessible, high-quality, Christ-honoring theatre education and training to Dallas-area youth. Over the last four years, the Bright Lights team (collectively possessing 175+ years of theatre experience) has reached hundreds of children and successfully produced five full-scale musical productions, two masterclasses, multiple workshops, and nine (9) weeklong summer camps for 150+ families across the Greater Dallas.

Bright Lights has three main forms of programming:

Productions: These are full-scale musicals or plays that give students the opportunity to participate in a professional theater production environment. Students audition for, rehearse, and perform well-known theatrical works while learning about character development, stage presence, and teamwork. Productions also incorporate gospel themes, allowing students to explore deeper connections between their faith and the stories they tell on stage.

Workshops/Masterclasses: BLT offers specialized sessions focusing on specific theater arts skills like acting, singing, dancing, and production. These sessions are designed to provide rich learning experiences, helping students to develop their talents and confidence in a supportive environment. Masterclasses often bring in experts from various fields to provide students with high-quality instruction and insight into the professional world of theater.

Summer Camps: These week-long camps offer a fun and immersive introduction to theater for younger students. Participants engage in a range of activities, from acting and singing to set and costume design, culminating in a performance at the end of the week. Camps are designed to be accessible and enjoyable for all skill levels.

Total Project Budget: $156,721.15

Other Funding
Sources For The Project (Committed & Potential): Nearly 90% of Bright Light’s revenue is derived from earned income. However, the organization has received significant funding from 2COR89 Foundation.

Project Title: ADDA Collegiate Program
Project Description:

The Attention Deficit Disorder Association (ADDA) is a 501(c)(3) catered to adults living with ADD and ADHD. Originally founded over 30 years ago, the organization was created out of necessity by other adults suffering from the complexities of Attention Deficit Disorder. The founders of ADDA saw the need to equip adults with the tools to succeed in a neurotypical world. Today, ADDA has grown to nearly 6,000 members.

We convene once a year at the ADDA conference to learn more about the needs of our members. One of the most urgent needs is to help usher adolescents into young adulthood through a college program. The ADDA Collegiate program assists students with scholarships, and guidance in managing the workload of classes while living with ADHD.

Members aged 18-21 gain tremendous knowledge tailored toward their specific needs through multiple tiers. Our ADDA Collegiate members can gain services that help them develop a community, connect and grow through mentorship courses, webinars, peer support groups, virtual events, and our own social media platform ADDA Social

The Hermanowski grant will be used to fund our scholarship program and young adult member journey. The Collegiate Program will allow young adults to transition smoothly into our member journey. This will require the ADDA team to reinforce their online engagement practices through search engine optimization, and gamification of our website.

With the $10,000 Hermanowski grant we can pay web developers, staff and focus our efforts on retaining the next generation of ADDA members.

Project Title: The Greatness Project
Project Description:

This is a unique interdisciplinary character development initiative that helps early adolescents & transitional youth between the ages of 9 and 18 who may have been negatively impacted by an interruption in family life, brokenness, violation or other unforeseeable happenings. The Greatness Project’s creative year-round curriculum is culturally sensitive, and it’s steeped in evidence-proven strategies and research-based techniques and solutions to transform lives for the better. Our comprehensive curriculum addresses the critical needs of adolescents transitioning from foster care, facing academic struggles, or dealing with past criminal or mental health challenges. It’s designed to help participants embrace their best self, discover their purpose from earlier ages so they are given a "step-up" advantage, ultimately growing up to be healthy, productive, economically stable citizens who add value to themselves and their community in today’s and tomorrow’s society.
We partner, consult, and collaborate with youth professional providers, school administrators, teachers, educators, school officers, law enforcement and assigned social workers to identify the challenges that need to be incorporated and included in the developmental aspect. During the eight-week sessions, we meet twice a week for 60-120 minutes. Each session involves interactive lessons with a questionnaire to gauge the participant’s understanding and comprehension of discussed content. Sessions conclude with a group activity; food, snacks, and drinks are also included, along with:
Interdisciplinary activities and/or fitness (total body, strengthening and conditioning classes, indoor cycling, workouts, etc.) with bottled water.
Urban mentorship and state-of-the-arts leadership class which focuses its attention on professionalism, life application, technical skill set, good communication, self-worth and value, self-sufficiency, social responsibility, media production, citizenship and becoming successful and creative entrepreneurs and influencers.
Field trips, community activity, or group events to build team ethics such as movie nights for families, health and wellness workshops, game nights, smoke-free classes, etc.
