Project Title: Miracle League recreational programs for children with disabilities
Project Description:

Miracle League is the only nonprofit organization to provide year-round recreational programs for children with disabilities in the West Texas, Southern New Mexico area. Our participants begin at age 3. We offer eleven sports including tee ball, kickball, soccer, and basketball, to name a few. All children are provided full uniforms, equipment, awards, and celebrations . We are an all volunteer organization, no one gets paid a salary and all funds are distributed among the sports programs to offset overruns and provide supplemental insurance. We fundraise year round and rely on grants, sponsorships, donations to help provide a healthier lifestyle to a more sedentary population. Miracle League was established in 2005, by Raul and Sandie Olivar after watching a program on HBO Sports. Sandie and Raul were active members of a volunteer organization at A T &T and after thirty years of employment Sandie used her retirement money to start the programs. Miracle League began with tee ball and baseball and has steadily added other sports to the league. The athletes play on teams in a league setting with “buddies” (volunteers from high school or college or community members) assigned to players needing the added assistance to make the game a great experience foe the player. Some of our sports teams participate in Special Olympics competitions locally and at the state level. Our players are asked to pay a $25 registration fee per sport and we handle the rest. Many of our players are unable to pay but they play just the same. We collaborated with the Junior League of El Paso and raised 1.5 million dollars building a specially designed baseball field and complex for our participants. We play as many of our sports on the rubber field and include athletes using mobility devices.

Proposal Information

Today’s Date: 02/08/2024
Requested Amount: 5,000

Project Title: Wabi Sabi General Operating
Project Description:

Our mission is centered on providing financial and material assistance to uplift Moab’s most vulnerable residents. We envision a community where the intrinsic value of every individual and item is acknowledged and celebrated, fostering a culture of sharing, repurposing, and redistributing resources to uplift those in need and minimize waste.
Established in 2002, Wabi Sabi has been a cornerstone of economic stimulation and philanthropic support in Moab City and Grand County for over two decades. Having contributed nearly $2 million back to the community and local nonprofits, we’ve supported nearly 60 jobs in Grand County in 2023 alone. Our focus extends to various areas including family resources, healthcare, education, economic self-reliance, aiding the homeless, and cultural enrichment, with a commitment to supporting youth initiatives.
By diverting 120,000 pounds of stuff from the landfill, other nonprofits in town receive funding from us such as Beacon After School, Canyonland Field Institute, Grand Area Mentoring, Mindfulness in Education, Moab Free Health Clinic, Moab Solutions, Moab Valley Cultural Center, and Youth Garden Project. In the last year alone, our efforts have resulted in $22,320 in Non-Profit Partner Awards, 741 Thanksgiving Meals served to community members in need, and the recycling of 70,000 pounds of textiles, among other contributions.
To continue our mission and contribute further to job creation, we require a dedicated commercial space of at least 8,500 square feet. We invite the Hermanowski Foundation to be a part of sustaining our 20-year legacy of community support, education, and environmental stewardship through responsible consumerism. Your support of $5,000 towards our general operating expenses will aid us in giving back to the community. Thank you for considering our proposal and for your continued commitment to serving the community.
